Daisies Planting Trees

Chico Tree Advocates were helped by Daisies planting trees!   Daisies (Junior Girl Scouts) are so cute!  They dug the holes,
played in the dirt, helped spread out the wood chips and made our day!  It is so encouraging to see the energy of these girls outside planting trees.  Thanks to all the parents and the Troop Leader for a wonderful day.    We planted a Valley Oak on 3rd Avenue and a Sycamore and Tulip tree on Navarro Dr.  Thanks again to all the participants!

Click on this link to see more of the Daisies the next day.

Tabling for a Village

Claudia, President of the CSU Chico Tiny House Club helped set up, table, and pack up, this Saturday.  And, boy, it was a good thing!  We were only able to table for Simplicity Village for about an hour or two before it started raining.  First time I've ever been run out of the Farmers' Market by the rain.   😀   Books and rain...not a good combo.     But the people we got to talk to signed up to volunteer and they were so fired up about a tiny home village that it inspired us!

Farmers Market 4-1-17

We had a fun and effective day at the Farmers Market.  Twelve new volunteer sign-ups to help Simplicity Village become a reality; More donations; Great conversations, it was an encouraging outing.  Met a CSU Chico Prof. who asked if I could make a Simplicity Village presentation to his class!   That will be a great opportunity to recruit more members for our construction team of the CSU Chico Tiny House Club.  Lots of people checking out our Simplicity Village exhibit.  Handed out a few Pancakes for Peace quarter sheets.  The band "Upstairs Neighbors" made some great music next door. It was a good day.

Simplicity Village hits the Farmers' Market

We introduced a new Simplicity Village Peace Panel today.  A more simple and punchy Panel for walking traffic.  With three Panels on the homeless issue we are getting focused.  The musician next to me even played "Gimmie Shelter" by the Stones.  That was great!  And we got eleven new sign-ups from people who want to help Simplicity Village come to fruition!  And we started accepting donations!  It was a good day.

Environmental Coalition Community Gathering 2017

The Women's Club was a bustle of environmentalists, appetizers and music.  We were there promoting Chico Tree Advocates, (CTA).  Thanks to all who contributed.  We got ten more volunteer sign-ups for CTA!  And we finally lined up some video help for Career Builders!  It was a fun time.

I didn't think to take this photo until the end and most people had left.

Patty

Chico's emergency shelters are full and turning away homeless people.  I saw Patty sleeping on a sidewalk.  Our recent "Point in Time" survey of the housing challenged talked to 1800 people.  Chico's vacancy rate is 1%.  It's time to call our City Councilors and ask them to declare a "Shelter Crisis".  That could expedite several ways to help address our homeless issue.

Chico Housing Action Team has been able to get about 25 formerly homeless people into housing.  We are working to establish a tiny home village.  We need volunteers.  If you have an hour a week and would like more satisfaction in your life, call Charles 530-518-1417.

The question really is, "How long will we
allow them to suffer, until we decide that they are worthy of help?"  And the answer will say more about us than it does about them.

Back at the Farmer's Market

Back at the Farmer's Market; the first time, in a long time that it wasn't rainy or blustery.  We had an excellent day.  A lot of traffic; sold a couple of books and introduced Project Censored to many people.  It was an attractive set up, with the Chinese Proverb out front, "To know and not act, is to not know."  The table was full and attracted attention.  This may be a good year for activism.

The Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning

Today it was the "Current Events and the Media" class of the Osher Institute at CSU Chico to get a little introduction to the Global Critical Media Literacy Project.  The presentation of 28 minutes with 86 PPT slides was well received. They were a good audience with interested questions occasionally and respectable applause at the end. Check out some of the slides.

The Womens' March

We were among the thousands that turned out for the Womens' March in Chico.
